Hernia surgery

Dr Singh performs both open and laparoscopic surgery to repair hernias.

Open hernia repair

Open surgery is more invasive than laparoscopic hernia repair.

An open hernia repair procedure

Dr Singh makes an incision over the hernia. The hernia sac is dissected and opened. The content is pushed back into the abdominal cavity. The surgeon uses a surgical mesh to seal and strengthen the muscular wall.

Recovery after open hernia repair
Patients can return home within a few hours after surgery for small hernias but will require a longer hospital stay for larger hernias. Strenuous exercise must be avoided for at least six weeks after open surgery.
Laparoscopic repair for hernias
Laparoscopic surgery involves a few small cuts and faster recovery. A surgical mesh is placed and secured over the defect to strengthen the abdominal wall.
Recovery after laparoscopic hernia repair
Strenuous exercise must be avoided for at least four weeks after surgery.
