The doctor gives detailed pre-operative bowel preparation instructions before the colonoscopy. The patient must stick to a clear fluid diet that consists of gelatin, pulp-free juice and broth for at least 72 hours before the procedure. It’s essential to avoid fluids that contain dye as this can stain the colon and affect the diagnostic procedure.

Colon resection is performed to treat colon cancer. The cancerous portion of the colon is dissected while its healthy ends are joined together.
