Breast surgery

Lumpectomy

A lumpectomy involves the removal of a lump in the breast as well as nearby tissue. This procedure is performed alone for benign breast lumps.

Lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy

Breast cancer is likely to spread to lymph nodes in the armpit, and in early breast cancer. Dr Singh carries out a lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy to assess the spread of the disease and reduce a side effect called "lymphedema." Patients require mapping of the lymphatic drainage of the affected breast, which is usually done at Nuclear medicine in the morning of the surgery.

Mastectomy

A mastectomy is the resection of the entire breast. In advanced breast cancer, a modified radical mastectomy is performed with involves removing the affected breast as well as the lymph nodes in the armpit.

Microdochectomy

A Microdochectomy is the surgical excision of the milk duct from the nipple-areola region. A Microdochectomy is performed to treat nipple discharge from one duct. Before the doctor conducts a Microdochectomy, she will ask the patient not to squeeze the nipple. Dr Singh guides a wire into the troublesome duct and then carves around the areola and removes the entire duct.
